My first experience driving a BMW was when my sister asked me to take her kid's shopping. She offered me the keys to her beautiful gold 1980's classic 3 Series with a brown convertible top. The sun was shining brightly so we put the top down and off we went. I felt like I was flying! ⠀ ⠀
My nieces said they didn't like the way the car smelled like coconuts (the leather was well taken care of) and my sister was about to move and it would have been a hassle to take overseas. She offered it to me for basically whatever I could pay her. Without hesitation, I gave her a check that emptied my account. Believe me, I got a deal! ⠀ ⠀
At the time I was just getting myself back on my feet after a divorce. I was living in the basement apartment at my parent's home, with one kid in college and one who had just graduated. I hadn't been looking for a new car, but when the opportunity presented itself, I knew I had to jump on it. I was confident that with no car payments, on a monthly basis I could put away enough money to get my bank balance back up to where it had been in no time. And I did.⠀ ⠀
Just a few days ago when I spotted this car parked in the lot of the same destination that I had driven my first BMW decades ago - I simply had to take a photo. It immediately reminded me of the feeling I had years ago - top down, my hair flapping in the breeze and feeling completely safe in a solidly built, luxury convertible. Grateful to be alive, full of playfulness and spontaneity, ready to receive whatever gifts were placed in front of me.⠀ ⠀
